A week or so ago, there was a story about the company that Discord was going to partner with for their age verification technology having a massive frontend vulnerability. Came across this article that is more verbose about that whole thing. It's an interesting read and I couldn't help but notice that there are a lot of pretty outlandish claims made with little evidence presented, but I think I buy the gist of it if not the whole package.
Summary more or less: the company that offers it's age verification technology just from your selfie is keeping more data behind the scenes than you would expect and selling that along. Discord chooses bad partners to work with, tries to launder the lost consumer trust by saying it's not them, it's the company. But really, they're the ones who picked the partner.
I don't fully buy everything said in the article, but still an interesting read I think. I believe the US government could be involved in profiling people through the use of these kinds of technologies. I don't find a single source claiming it to be so as credible. So shrug. Grain of salt kinda moment.
