2026 is the year that I’m really going to make an effort to buy less new games, and focus in on playing a bunch of classic games I missed, or stuff I want to revisit. Trying to save money, but also trying to justify the amount of room my retro stuff is taking up in my office!

At the moment I have two handhelds, the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro, and the Retroid Pocket Flip 2. I’m thinking of selling the Flip though and getting this baddie because there’s a whole world of DS games I missed and would love to play.

At the moment I’m playing two retro games. On handheld I’m playing through Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past. Despite being one of my all time favourite games, I don’t think I’ve played through the entire thing in about 15 year, so it’s a great hit of nostalgia that I need right now.

On my MiSTer and CRT I’m playing through Metal Gear Solid. Even after all this time, this game really slaps in a very stupid way, but I’m so in for. I’ve played this game around 10 or so times so I kinda remember most of it. I’m mostly excited to graduate to MGS 2 which I might play handheld just so I can get through it quicker.

What retro games and setups are you folks running?

I didn't put it on my 12 in 12 list, but I'd like to revisit, possibly replay and finish Albion. The first RPG I EVER played when I was like 6 and didn't know any English (although I might've been playing it translated because I can literally remember some translated texts).

This game and later Baldur's Gate are probably single-handedly responsible for me being interested not just in RPGs, but maybe even fantasy and sci-fi as a genre. Absolutely pivotal experiences.

I have the RP4 Pro like you Heller, and the RG35XXSP. While I thought I would be playing the SP more on commutes, I find the 4 Pro is the device I end up on more. And even now just use on the commute instead.

My partner got me a great christmas birthday present with the RP6 which will be very nice for some OLED gaming.

I'm also going for the whole buying less new games. I'm really shooting for only 1 purchase a month and for it to always be something I start that week. Which sounds like a lot for most folks, but I'm just too interested in stuff. But I'm using the handhelds and fan translations as my alternative to just buying things that seem neat.

Awww yeah @RowaseCarmihara let’s smash those retro games. I’ll still grab new games but like you said 100% limited to like one a month and only if I’m playing it then and not horsing it into my backlog.

How’s the RP6? I’m digging out my 2DS XL and seeing how functional it is. I want the Thor but if I can easily do DS/3DS on it then might not be worth upgrading from the Flip 2 as it’s a good piece of hardware.

For now though it’s rp4p day and night. I’ll have to figure out who I’m going to pass it on to once my 6 arrives as that feels too close of an overlap.

The 4 is fantastic though as a handheld just big enough to be comfortable and easy on the eyes and just small enough to be playable standing on the busy Tokyo train.

I have considered a dedicated handheld that's smaller than the steam deck for retro gaming, especially if I could get one with retroachievement support. As far as retro games, I think I want to play OG RE1/2/3/Code Veronica very soon!

I was a bit skeptical that I would use one, as I have a big PC, a MiSTer, and a Deck. I definitely prefer using the smaller handheld. Can throw it in any small bag and play while in line for stuff, on the train, coffee, baby sleeping etc. Maybe it is because I need to claw any gaming time I can in the inbetween moments these days but I really do love it.

The retroid pocket 6 arrived! Sadly mine is borked, but in the little I got to play of it before contacting customer support it was very nice and pretty impressive to see Shinobi Art of Vengeance at 120fps.

I hope the reply customer support can give me is "it's a software thing" Since it was only triggering initially during the android menus like settings. But then it started happening in gameplay too! So, I'm pretty sure something somewhere is not quite right inside.
